Temperate Grasslands in General
About one quarter of the earth is covered by grasslands. This biome can be found on every continent except Antarctica. Grassland biomes are large areas of grasses, herbs and flowers.
Trees have a hard time surviving in most grassland biomes because the soil is too fine and dry.
Biomes located at middle latitudes (30° to 60°) between the poles and the Equator (temperate deciduous forest, temperate grasslands and cold deserts) receive more sunlight and have moderate temperatures. Temperate grasslands have 2 seasons: summer and winter. The summers can be as hot as 37 degrees Celsuis, and in the winter it has been known to be as cold as -40 degrees Celsuis.
